“A Wheelchair in the Hut, a Gateway to the World”

Crowdfunding Campaign Presentation

Custom Regeneration, a Benefit Corporation specializing in Upcycling, Circular and Social Economy, has organized a crowdfunding campaign in collaboration with World Friends NGO. This organization has been working in the world's outskirts for over 20 years to safeguard the right to health. The goal of the campaign is to support the regeneration of discarded disability aids in Italy and transfer them to Kenya, where they will be distributed to those in need in the slums of Nairobi, significantly improving their quality of life.

The Event

The event will feature Danilo Ragona, CEO of Custom Regeneration; Dr. Paolo Leoncini, coordinator of World Friends' Italy projects; Luca Paiardi, architect and traveler; and Andrea Lanfri, a Paralympic athlete. Lanfri was part of the “K to K” mission in Kenya this summer alongside fellow Paralympic athlete Massimo Coda. The mission aimed to raise funds for this campaign and raise awareness on these issues.

For people with disabilities in Nairobi’s slums, moving from the floor to the entrance of a hut is a huge challenge, almost like climbing a mountain. Improved mobility is a significant step forward for inclusion and social participation. However, freedom of movement in slums is just one component of a dignified life for people with disabilities. Improving the management of physiological needs and increasing the availability of prosthetic aids are fundamental for providing a path to social emancipation. The campaign aims to give new life to discarded disability aids in Italy, educate Kenyan patients on managing clinical issues, and train healthcare personnel in Kenya to refurbish these aids.
